1/26/2024 0 Comments Returnal weaponsYou know what else does damage up close? Straight up bifurcating a dude with your laser sword. ![]() It’s a shotgun! Which means it does loads of damage up close. Oh, you want that electric dog to die? I’ll think about it. Unless you get the charge shot, which is my least favourite kind of gun: the type of gun which thinks pulling the trigger is more of a suggestion than an order. You start with it, so it must suck, right? Surprise! It’s mediocre. I have left out the calculations for clarity and hidden the units for your convenience. Furthermore I can assure you that the measurements involved were exactingly precise. “But how on Earth is that possible? Weapon preference is subjective! What calculations could you possibly make? By what metric could you judge personal preference, and what conceivable units would such a measurement be made in?”įor precision’s sake, then: the weapons are presented in no particular order. I compiled this list using Actual Science™ and as such it can’t be criticised (sorry). That means there’s no such thing as a pointless run, as long as you’ve been busy upgrading your favourite weapons.Īs such, I thought I’d put together a tier list for the weapons in the game, to help players decide which weapons are worth spending the time to grind out the upgrades on, and which will match their preferred playstyle. The real juice is the Weapon upgrades unlock the right upgrades and you start to regularly find weapons which can carry almost any run. The suit upgrades are nice and add some fun Metroidvania exploration, but they’re not the main way you get more powerful. ![]() ![]() Having finally finished the 3rd Act of Returnal, I don’t feel that way. There’s a bit of a common refrain in the complaints about Returnal - that the permanent upgrades are few and far between to unlock, making the many failed runs agonising and some runs plain pointless. I go into (far too much) more detail here. Edit: If you have come here from Google, then please: forgive me.
